How to take care of your lingerie?

We wear bras and undies every single day. Your lingerie makes up a large part of your wardrobe and possibly your expenses 😉 It is important to make sure that you are looking after your lingerie and making sure that it is getting the most wear out of it. There is no point buying a bunch of sexy bras and panties if they are going to be ruined and thrown out a few months later. Lingerie care is simple and easy and does not have to change the way you launder too much.
Have a rotation
We all have that favourite bra that we search through the clean washing basket for. There is nothing wrong with that, however, in order to give your lingerie the best life you can, it is a good idea to have a healthy rotation of items. If you have a healthy rotation of lingerie items it means that they are able to be worn regularly but not too much. Meaning that they will last longer and not show signs of wear and tear too quickly.
Wash regularly
It is best to wash your lingerie after each wear – no more wearing your favourite bra for 3 days in a row. Our bodies produce a lot of oils and sweat throughout the day and leaving these on your lingerie for too long can cause breakdowns of the material and wear to begin to show. Wash your lingerie after each use and air dry as soon as you can after the wash has finished.
Use alcohol-free washing detergent
You can use either a powder or a liquid to wash your lingerie. When choosing the product to use, try to stay away from ones that have alcohol, bleach or nasty chemicals in them. Staying away from these ingredients means that the detergent is a lot more eco friendly and will not breakdown the material of your lingerie.
Hand-wash
We do not always have time to do a hand wash, however, if you do – it is always recommended. The washing machine cycles can be very fast and vigorous. This can damage your delicate items, especially those that are made of lacey or silky materials or have wire in them. By doing a hand wash on these items you are being a lot more gentle on them and they are not being twisted and pulled into all different shapes.
Use a wash bag
If you are machine washing your lingerie that it is a good idea to invest in a wash bag. You simply place your lingerie and delicate items in the wash bag and then throw it in the washing machine. The reason for a wash bag is that keeps the delicate items in one place and they are not being thrown and twisted around as much. It prevents damage to these items.
Air-dry
Lingerie is delicate and putting it in the dryer to dry can be very damaging for it, especially the items that are lacey or have wire in them. The dryer can distort the shape of wired bras and it is difficult to get them back into shape. Delicate panties can be melted, torn and misshaped whilst being in the dryer.
Keeping your lingerie in good shape will save you a lot of money and trips to the shops in the future. It does not need to change the way you do things too much and really its pretty simple stuff.
